Abstract

This thesis enters a burgeoning and often contentious conversation about the advisability and viability of a Christian safely practicing yoga. In an Aquinas-like fashion it entertains objections and responses to the question from various perspectives but seeks to engage the inherent tensions with a non-polarizing, yoga-like, integrative intent. Examining core dimensions within Christian Scripture and Tradition as well as key yogic principles, it recommends resources for discerning faithful alignment with Christian faith at various levels of practicing yoga and participating in the life of the faith. This project concludes that the only truly safe practice is a genuinely Christian Yoga that cultivates an ever-deepening, expanding, generous, generative, and loving relationship with the preeminently personal and mystery-laden triune God.
