Abstract

The sin of racism continues to severely wound our society and community of faith. The Sacrament of Reconciliation was examined through the lens of racial discrimination. This investigation has shown that experiencing the sacrament in this way can allow for a new understanding of our individual role in the sin of racism and can provide the foundation for authentic racial metanoia, unifying actions of reparation and lasting communal reconciliation. This paper concludes that white Catholics are called to take a leadership position in this new endeavor.
