For this project I created a brand of alcoholic seltzers with a brand identity showcasing the brand’s logo and featured design accompanied by four flavors. The central idea of my work is to create a beverage brand that people can connect with on an emotional level, making music the driving factor of the brand identity. I want the brand to stimulate good emotions, making it a go to drink for events.
As a graphic design major, I have been able to emphasize the creative freedom I have in my work through package design and showcase my graphic design skills through making a 2 dimensional design into a 3 dimensional physical object. Doing this project helped me expand my knowledge with Adobe Illustrator and learn more on how to create designs tailored to a brand identity, while also having creative freedom with the design elements. I was inspired to create a line of alcoholic beverages because my aunt and uncle own a bar and grill that has been in the family for three generations. The theme of my work is music, specifically genres of music. I wanted to show movement within my designs and connect emotionally with consumers, characterizing the melody of a song and how it flows together cohesively.
I choose to use a slim can instead of a bottle so I can showcase the product using the label as much as possible. The series of cans are contained in a branded box that follows the brand identity and provides durability and flexibility. My creative process started with the creation of the brand name and logo, followed by the flavors and colors associated with the brand. Then I created designs that correspond to the flavors and overall packaging of the box and can labels. I also created a set of posters for each flavor that showcases the group and reinforces branding.
Through creating this project, I have explored design in a more complex way through a series of products. I have showcased my skills through the creative process from start to finish using many different programs through Adobe in the 2D stage of the product development. I pushed myself to learn new techniques and skills as I was in the stage of taking my 2D design and creating the 3D physical product. Overall this project has taught me a lot about using my creativity and skills to showcase who I am as an artist and graphic designer.
