Description
As I am approaching the end of my college career, I am currently working on a series of digital illustrations of my immediate family. My motivation behind my project is the fact that my family has always supported me whenever I needed them the most. This project was my way of showing them my love and appreciation. Growing up with my family, I’ve established connections with them on multiple levels. I am appreciative of all of the sacrifices they’ve made for me over the years in order to help me be the man I am today. My mom, being the glue of the family, is one of the strongest women I know. Although she is very soft spoken, you would never want to be on her bad side (believe me, I know). She does everything in her power to make sure my sisters and I are thriving. She challenges us all to be better versions of ourselves every day. My sister, Ta’ Tee-Etta, is my best friend. Although we were constantly at each other's throats growing up, she’s always had my back. She was always there to protect me even when I didn’t ask her to do so. She’s been someone who I can talk about anything. Michel is the sister with multiple personalities. One minute she’s overly energetic, the next she's very serious, and later on she’s very calm. Growing up, we definitely didn’t see eye to eye, but as we both got older, we’ve grown closer.
For my project, there will be four illustrations completed in the senior art exhibit. These illustrations, which include, my mom, two sisters, and myself, were completed in Adobe Illustrator Draw. These illustrations were all completed on my phone, although it was difficult to work on such a small surface. The more practice I got with it, I was able to get comfortable with using a stylus to complete my artwork. My artwork focuses on tracing, coloring, filling, shading, and highlighting. For example, with my illustration, I started off by choosing a high quality photograph of myself to trace in Adobe Illustrator Draw. After thoroughly tracing my image, I proceeded to fill in my drawing with the proper colors, shadows, and highlights. My background color was pink because that was the color which popped out the most in my illustration. In addition, I filled the background with lines and shapes which were filled and outlined with the colors used for my illustration as well.
