Everyone is afraid of something in their life. In the series I tell a story of a person through their fears. My observation is how a person’s fear is reflected in their eyes and face even if they think actions are masking it to the world. I do not want people to be afraid of their fears. I want to provide ideas that people can use to overcome their fears and choose to do so with humor.
I use multiple mediums to deliver my message in photomontages of friction or discomfort and harmony and balance. My technique was developed through experimentation of different processes using Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator and photography. I don’t sketch out my projects often for graphic design because the ideas develop as I work. The pictures selected for my portraits allow me to build the concept I use in the portrait. I discovered my approach should be one of familiarity, which led me to use family members and their real fears.
I have used colors to convey an emotion, a stylized typography, a ripped effect separating two emotions, the use of caption bubbles for thoughts all were carefully chosen as backgrounds to express the emotions portrayed by the subject. My portraits are to show fear in a humorous way. Does fear control us or do we control it?
