Artist Statement
For my senior exhibition I designed a series of four music promotional posters. Music allows me to relax and reflect which is why the posters are based on musical artists I enjoy listening to. I created these posters digitally using Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop. They are composed of different images, shapes, and text I edited and stylized.
I used the psychedelic art style popular for music posters during the 1960s. This style uses super vibrant colors and the shapes create an almost 3-D effect I find fascinating. I am drawn to the psychedelic art pioneered by artists like graphic designers Milton Glaser and the Big 5; Wes Wilson, Stanley Mouse, Alton Kelley, Rick Griffin and Victor Moscoso. I also incorporated some elements from music posters from the 1980s because this decade saw a resurgence in music poster design and the return of psychedelic elements. For example the Pitbull poster uses a flat background with darker colors as opposed to 3-D background with brighter colors like the Jason Derulo poster.
