Artist Statement
My project is product design which includes logo and packaging design, as well as creating promotional materials that articulate the voice of my brand, Amor. This campaign is for the fragrance, Enamorada, which explores and expresses the feeling of love, leaving a permanent impression on its audience. The fragrance slogan is Mi media naranja, which is a Spanish metaphor that translates to “my half orange.” However, the deeper and metaphorical meaning is my better half, my soulmate. Mi media naranja is a legacy of love.
All my design choices were driven by the goal of making an elegant product that also felt accessible and affordable to the general public, a product that people will want to own and interact with. I used the font “Big Caslon Medium” for the logotype because it presents as high-end and classy with the bold stems and spines, as well as the thin serifs. I also customized the “O” with two illustrated leaves to reference an orange, with the goal of making it unique yet recognizable. I used the script font “Mina Regular” for the slogan to provide an elegant and homemade quality to the packaging.
When it comes to the decorative illustrations on the packaging and label, I created it with qualities and elements of the scent in mine. The illustrated line work is both eye-catching, fancy and intricate, making the product feel more luxurious. I also chose a circular orange-ombre perfume bottle to connect the packaging to the scent's main ingredient, citrus. Finally, when designing the packaging, I went with the emerald shape with glossy fabric on the inside, both in the emerald green color, giving the customer the exclusive and expensive feeling when handling and opening the packaging.
