Description

Dr. De La Torre presents a lecture entitled Why Do They Come?: Immigration and the Problem of Hospitality. In debates over immigration, some advocates emphasize the Christian duty of hospitality, citing various Biblical precepts on the importance of welcoming strangers and caring for newcomers. In his lecture, Dr. De La Torre questions whether hospitality is the most appropriate virtue to employ in regards to Latin American immigration to the United States, given historical facts about how the USA has moved into and exploited the very countries from which those immigrants now come.
