The senior art portfolios are created for the senior art capstone which emphasizes studio and professional practice, art theory and critical research. Students refine recent work and develop new work in preparation for the Senior Art Exhibition, which is the culminating experience of the art major. Students are introduced to professional practice skills: planning, marketing and promoting artwork, documenting work and preparing materials for grants, and scholarship and residency applications. Students learn to develop an artist talk, portfolio, biography, artist’s statement and curriculum vitae.

Erotic Elders: Getting Freaky Over Fifty
Bruce Marlow
My senior art final is a booklet featuring illustrations of couples over fifty in varying scenes of sexual intimacy with comedic twists. In my eyes, sex should not be treated with such seriousness, and instead is something that should be laughed at, as it is a hilarious experience filled with pinched nerves, weird faces, and off-putting bodily noises. Learning to laugh at the things that make people uncomfortable is an important way to normalize them and allow others to talk about it without judgement or shame. With this work, I intend to poke holes in the idealized image western society has of sex, wherein couples are physically perfect and face no hindrances or roadblocks to intimacy. Sex does not need to be regulated to merely a source of titillation or personal shame, it can be a way to achieve closeness and a vulnerability with others. I use the genre of erotica to draw attention to non-idealized images of sex, where mistakes are made and messes are frequent. To me, human body is rife with wonderful flaws, and removing the illusion of perfection and age restrictions can better normalize the realities of sex and sexuality.

Family Ties
Walter McBride
As I am approaching the end of my college career, I am currently working on a series of digital illustrations of my immediate family. My motivation behind my project is the fact that my family has always supported me whenever I needed them the most. This project was my way of showing them my love and appreciation. Growing up with my family, I’ve established connections with them on multiple levels. I am appreciative of all of the sacrifices they’ve made for me over the years in order to help me be the man I am today. My mom, being the glue of the family, is one of the strongest women I know. Although she is very soft spoken, you would never want to be on her bad side (believe me, I know). She does everything in her power to make sure my sisters and I are thriving. She challenges us all to be better versions of ourselves every day. My sister, Ta’ Tee-Etta, is my best friend. Although we were constantly at each other's throats growing up, she’s always had my back. She was always there to protect me even when I didn’t ask her to do so. She’s been someone who I can talk about anything. Michel is the sister with multiple personalities. One minute she’s overly energetic, the next she's very serious, and later on she’s very calm. Growing up, we definitely didn’t see eye to eye, but as we both got older, we’ve grown closer.
For my project, there will be four illustrations completed in the senior art exhibit. These illustrations, which include, my mom, two sisters, and myself, were completed in Adobe Illustrator Draw. These illustrations were all completed on my phone, although it was difficult to work on such a small surface. The more practice I got with it, I was able to get comfortable with using a stylus to complete my artwork. My artwork focuses on tracing, coloring, filling, shading, and highlighting. For example, with my illustration, I started off by choosing a high quality photograph of myself to trace in Adobe Illustrator Draw. After thoroughly tracing my image, I proceeded to fill in my drawing with the proper colors, shadows, and highlights. My background color was pink because that was the color which popped out the most in my illustration. In addition, I filled the background with lines and shapes which were filled and outlined with the colors used for my illustration as well.

Animation Practice
Talor Petitjean
ARTIST STATEMENT
Currently my work consists of designing characters from the ground up and slowly turning them into a form of entertainment for people to watch. My work creates happiness, joy, and a new sense of escape from everyday life. From backgrounds to small details of a storyline, I hone in on the details of the characters personalities and their emotions to keep the story and characters consistent. I use Adobe products to create the colorful images that I present to the people, but I am not afraid to get hands on with any projects and work with pencils or paints. I do voices for my characters which bring my characters closer to life even if they are not in an animation. When I was a young kid I watched many different cartoons, and I observed all the characters and how successful they were in the show. This allowed me to study many different personalIties and analyze many characters. The characters that I have made also have been with me since the fifth grade and they are affected by what is going on in my life as well. I am presenting in my senior show an animation I worked on in class over a semester. It took over three months to hand draw 52 individual images, and to scan them in and make it into a gif on photoshop. I would spend about an hour to two hours a day on the drawings. After all the images were sketched out I added the details in and darken the lines to prep for the scanning phase of the animation. After all the animations were scanned, I stitched all the images in photoshop and did a time lapse and exported it out into a gif.

Morgan Pennings, Senior Art Exhibition Portfolio
Morgan Pennings
In this body of work, I explore the concept of identity especially in the way it relates to how we see ourselves and how others view us. In my video, I share my own experience of shedding a part of my outer self to create room for a new part of me to show. The photo collage is a combination of my own painting and photography and is appropriately names Stuck in an Oil Painting. My final piece is a collection of street photography that I took while abroad in Florence, Italy. The connections can be seen among the people in the photos, but there are even more connections being created behind the camera. The most important part about creating art for me is to find beauty in the ordinary.
