With natural humility and an otherworldly collection of knowledge, Ben Chan (Philosophy) has quiz lovers around the world prognosticating his “Jeopardy!” run. His three-day winning streak has shown he’s a shrewd, strategic player who is willing to take a risk.

Spring 2023: Elementary Students Get a Crash-course in Human Anatomy
St. Norbert College
Bones bingo and a heart-chamber maze greeted an excited batch of third- and fourth-grade students in the Gehl-Mulva Science Center this spring. The interactive exhibits, which also included learning about the intestines and heart pulses, were led by senior SNC students in Deb Anderson’s BIOL 320: Human Anatomy and Histology course.

Spring 2023: Musician Finds Community Through Performance
St. Norbert College
Already an orchestra director with the Appleton (Wis.) School District, director of the New Horizons Orchestra and a bassoonist with the Green Bay Civic Symphony, Rachel (Meagher) Richards ’04 decided she didn’t quite have enough music in her life. Recommended by several people in the Fox Valley, Wis., community, she is now at the helm of youth orchestras for the Fox Valley Symphony.

Spring 2023: Packers President Mark Murphy to Speak at Commencement
St. Norbert College
The Green Bay Packers president and CEO will be St. Norbert College’s 2023 Commencement speaker. Murphy has served 16 years as president and CEO of the Packers, with the franchise compiling a 164-97-2 overall record during his tenure, one of the NFL’s top marks. He led the organization when the Lombardi Trophy came home to Lambeau in Super Bowl XVII. Murphy has also shepherded the development of the Titletown District and a modernization of the organization. At Commencement, Murphy will be awarded with an honorary doctorate from the college.

Spring 2023: SNC to Break Ground on Business Building With Gift From Schneider Family
St. Norbert College
The campus’s northwest bank of the Fox River will soon be home to the new Donald & Patricia Schneider Family Hall, with a lead gift from the Schneider family. Preparations for the new building – on the site of the Pennings Activity Center, formerly Pennings High School – will begin this winter.

Summer 2023: Green Knights Standout Tapped to Lead NHL’s Capitals

The long, winding journey of a hockey coach is not for the faint of heart. But after coaching posts in Charleston, S.C., Hershey, Pa., and Toronto with the Maple Leafs, Spencer Carbery ’06 has reached rarified air in his profession: As of June 2023, Carbery is one of 32 head coaches in the National Hockey League (NHL). He was named head coach of the Washington Capitals in May.

The dust has settled on the 2023 Green Knights spring sports season, and it was another banner year. Men’s tennis won its first-ever conference title, two women’s track and field athletes were named to the All-America team, and men’s golf secured its best finish in conference play.

A magnanimous total of five National Science Foundation grants are among multiple sources currently financing cutting-edge research at St. Norbert. The thrill of discovery is an essential part of the educational journey for students and faculty at St. Norbert College. It’s a journey in which the college finds willing partners – among them the National Science Foundation (NSF). SNC currently has five active research grants from the influential federal agency.

Summer 2022: The First Women of St. Norbert

It’s been 70 years since the first women formally admitted to St. Norbert as co-eds stepped onto campus to claim their place as part of the brand-new Class of 1956. They formed a very considerable minority at a school that had been men-only since its founding in 1898. In the ensuing years, a great deal has changed for the college, for the campus community and for the experience of women who, here in 2022, form 59 percent of the student body. We celebrate those pioneers who began it all.
