The staff and Norbertines of St. Norbert Abbey welcomed eight refugees in November, providing them with clothes, food and warm beds. For the refugees, this is the end of their journey from Afghanistan and the start of their new lives in the United States.

When you need a visit from Santa Claus, you call Susen Mesco ’79. From humble beginnings, training six would-be Kriss Kringles in her living room in how to properly don the red suit, Mesco now organizes, and sometimes participates in, more than 1,300 events every year just in the Denver area. Her career in the business of recruiting and developing Santas has been a whirlwind experience, and she wouldn’t trade it for anything.

St. Michael’s Abbey in Silverado, California, opened a new Romanesque-style campus 10 miles from its previous location, continuing the Norbertine priests’ mission of education, parish work, and spiritual formation that began when they fled Hungary in 1950.

Eric Hagedorn (Philosophy) has published translations and scholarly work on William of Ockham with both Cambridge and Oxford, exploring the medieval thinker’s contributions to ethics, free will, and the separation of church and state, while emphasizing the contemporary relevance of philosophy for critical thinking and ethical decision-making.

Spring/Summer 2021: SURF Program Goes International

Maria Soledad Yanqui-Rivera, a medical student from Ecuador, became the first international student to participate in St. Norbert College’s Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) program, overcoming COVID-related challenges and visa hurdles to conduct hands-on research on E. coli while gaining cross-cultural and laboratory experience.
