  The SNC Global Seminar trip to the African nation of Namibia in May was originally designed to focus on wildlife conservation. But since its inception in 2019, it’s become a course that opens eyes to topics far beyond nature and science, to include poverty, politics, health, communication, relationships and culture.

  Fall/Winter 2022: Green Knights Face Off for Their Countries at 2023 Winter World University Games

  Three St. Norbert College Green Knights—Michael McChesney ’23, Brendan Mark ’23, and Adam Stacho ’24—competed for Team USA and Team Slovakia at the 2023 Winter World University Games in Lake Placid, marking the first time an SNC player represented Team USA.

  Laurie M. Joyner will become St. Norbert College’s ninth president on July 12, 2023, making history as the first woman to lead the college and bringing extensive experience in Catholic higher education, leadership, and community engagement.

  Piano students around the world are benefiting from new teaching techniques developed by João Paulo Casarotti (Music). In 2009, he began to research new ways of incorporating technology into his music classroom, and 13 years later, that research has led to an innovative, tech-laced piano lab on the St. Norbert College campus.

  Convocation speaks to the importance of a grand entrance: Students were invited to make their presence known on campus and ring the college’s 100-plus-year-old bell.The ceremony was the formal launch of their lives as forever Green Knights. Later that weekend, they attended Mass of the Holy Spirit, enjoyed games and a full picnic spread, and stayed for a concert and fireworks show before classes kicked off the next day.

  This year’s annual SNC Day celebration included a variety of vendors as well as entertainment and educational opportunities for all ages. “Jeopardy!” champ Ben Chan (Philosophy) shared his experiences from the gameshow, student orgs hosted dunk tanks and pie-throwing, and visitors got Segway tours of campus. It was President Laurie Joyner’s first time experiencing the community event, while some SNC families continued making it an annual tradition.

  Tom Lee ’25, a music performance major from South Korea, leaned on his musical background to begin a research project on a style of South Korean drumming with Jamie Waroff (Music).   Elizabeth (Knox) Oates ’04 serves as vice president of consumer insights at Ulta Beauty, where she aims “to make beauty a force for good” by creating a more inclusive and empowering experience for all customers. With a background in international business from St. Norbert College and an MBA from the University of Wisconsin, Oates previously worked at General Mills and Kohl’s in consumer insights. At Ulta, she helps the company understand evolving customer needs, especially as beauty shifted during the pandemic to emphasize self-care and self-expression.

  Spring 2023: Archival Research of Rare Text Published, With a Prize

  Medieval literature scholar Bernardo Hinojosa (English) first encountered works from the Middle Ages as an undergraduate at Columbia University. “It completely changed my life,” says Hinojosa. He latched on to the experimentation and innovation of the period: “The beginnings of a literary tradition were being built for the first time,” he says.
