Gary Umhoefer has a grateful heart. At some point during each day, he picks up a small, simple notebook he purchased at an office store and turns to the page with that day’s date. There, he’ll see a name – or perhaps two, and sometimes a picture, as well – and call its owner to mind, also reciting a particular Jesuit prayer.

In a Class by Himself

This year, for the first time, an alumni presenter will be among those taking part in Alumni College. C.J. Hribal ’79, author and Marquette University professor, will offer a lecture on the art of mystery in fiction. Hribal joins St. Norbert professors (some of them SNC alums, too!) on the faculty of the annual event that draws alums back to campus for a weekend opportunity to reconnect.

Justice Drives Intern Initiative

When Joe Bergner ’86 and his 10-year-old son Simon met Yerzhan Nauruzbayev ’13 for the first time at a downtown Green Bay restaurant, Simon didn’t sit on his dad’s side of the table. Instead, he sidled up next to the stranger for lunch. Joe found himself glancing back and forth between his son and the young man, struck by their similar features.

Spring 2014: Brewers’ Pup Enjoys New Digs

Milwaukee, the Brewers and a Green Knight alum have all found themselves welcoming another Hank with open arms and hearts. The stray dog walk-on who now bears the same name as Hammerin’ Hank Aaron made himself known during spring training in Phoenix. When the team was unable to find the pup’s owner Marti Wronski ’94, vice president and general counsel for the Milwaukee Brewers, stepped forward and offered up her own home.
